Summary

You and your organization have the ability, talent, and desire to change the world as we know it。 The first crucial step is getting your brand’s message in front of the right people。

But that’s not an easy feat。 More than 60 billion online messages are sent into the world every day, and only a select few companies can succeed in the mad scramble for customer attention。

This means that the question for anyone who wants to gain mass exposure for their transformative content, business, or brand or connect with audiences around the globe is no longer if they should use social media but how to best take advantage of the numerous different platforms。

How can you make a significant impact in the digital world and stand out among all the noise?

Digital strategist and “growth hacker” Brendan Kane has the answer and will show you how—in 30 days or less。 A wizard of the social media sphere, Kane has built online platforms for A-listers including Taylor Swift and Rihanna。 He’s advised brands such as MTV, Skechers, Vice and IKEA on how to establish and grow their digital audience and engagement。 Kane has spent his career discovering the best tools to turn any no-name into a top influencer simply by speaking into a camera or publishing a popular blog—and now he’ll share his secrets with you。

In One Million Followers, Kane gives readers a gimmick-free step-by-step checklist that will teach you how to:

Gain an authentic, dedicated, and diverse online following from scratch
Create personal, unique, and valuable content that will engage your core audience
Build a multi-media brand through platforms like Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Snapchat, and LinkedIn

Featuring in-depth interviews with celebrities, influencers, and marketing experts, One Million Followers is the ultimate guide to building your worldwide brand and unlocking all the benefits social media has to offer。 It’s time to stop being a follower and start being a leader。

I was expecting something a little bit more。 The author tells you some good advice but mostly it is very general, could be summarized as: work hard, put out your content, don't rely on hacks, as they will not last。 Recommended for people who don't know how to even start with social media。 I was expecting something a little bit more。 The author tells you some good advice but mostly it is very general, could be summarized as: work hard, put out your content, don't rely on hacks, as they will not last。 Recommended for people who don't know how to even start with social media。 。。。more

I read this book for my social media class, and will maybe one day come back to it if I am trying to grow a company’s following。 Other than that, I found the beginning rather repetitive and preferred when he focused on specific platforms。

I had such high hopes and really wanted to love this。 Kind of disappointed。 Very general, broad ideas, and he uses massive celebrities as his examples。 He says things like “create awesome content” and “connect with people emotionally。” You think?!?

It was fine。 Not great。 Not terrible。 A lot of the book seemed like it was created just to unsubtly plug Kane’s services, but there were also some little nuggets of useful marketing advice sprinkled throughout。

I was a bit hesitant at the start thinking that this book would only point me in the direction of buying classes and other things on the authors website and though the book does link to those options, it is filled with actionable strategies that can be taken immediately。 There is solid advice here that I truly believe will help those that it aims to help as long as they’re putting in the work to do it。 There is some really important information here that will absolutely help you grow your brand。

Good content。 Very thought provoking and。。。 a lot of work。

The most misleading book title ever。 Should have been called Social Media Marketing for Affluent Influencers。

*One Million Followers* is a good read for anyone interested in leveraging the potential of social media。 It is simple, straightforward, and packed with examples that help us get the author's ideas right away。 As mentioned in the book over and over again, to gain followers, the most important thing we need to do is to offer as many values as possible to people。 To build a true brand, be a brand that serves people。 I can sum up the whole book in two key things: "Hypothesis, test, and pivot。" and *One Million Followers* is a good read for anyone interested in leveraging the potential of social media。 It is simple, straightforward, and packed with examples that help us get the author's ideas right away。 As mentioned in the book over and over again, to gain followers, the most important thing we need to do is to offer as many values as possible to people。 To build a true brand, be a brand that serves people。 I can sum up the whole book in two key things: "Hypothesis, test, and pivot。" and "Find the way to bring the best content to people。" 。。。more

useful, I had written down 51 insights from this book。 I do feel it's a bit behind in time (2021 now), as it doesn't mention Reels on IG and I feel that IGTV was in its early days when this was written。 But still nice tactics that are relevant for any point in the digital era ;-) useful, I had written down 51 insights from this book。 I do feel it's a bit behind in time (2021 now), as it doesn't mention Reels on IG and I feel that IGTV was in its early days when this was written。 But still nice tactics that are relevant for any point in the digital era ;-) 。。。more

This book was a lot more build-up than delivery。 You can actually learn more about how he built a massive social following by going directly to his social media channels and taking note of what he posts, what sort of engagement he gets, and the types of images he uses。 That being said, there's no one-size-fits-all approach to social media success, other than experiment, test, analyze, repeat。 While the content of each chapter can easily be found by reading blog articles that start with "How to g This book was a lot more build-up than delivery。 You can actually learn more about how he built a massive social following by going directly to his social media channels and taking note of what he posts, what sort of engagement he gets, and the types of images he uses。 That being said, there's no one-size-fits-all approach to social media success, other than experiment, test, analyze, repeat。 While the content of each chapter can easily be found by reading blog articles that start with "How to gain followers on [insert platform]," I did enjoy reading the chapter on YouTube since it is a platform I personally have little experience in building a following。 The book can be distilled into the following points: • Give to your audience and provide value, inspiration, or entertainment for them (don't just be self-promotional) • Find out what content they will likely share if you want exponential growth。 • Test everything often。 • Study what others are doing。With a book like this getting too nitty gritty into the details will quickly make the content irrelevant since platforms are constantly evolving。 Overall it is a good read for someone new to social media marketing or who enjoys reading anecdotes of other's success, but my advice is to give a chapter or two a skim and find out what works for your audience (because it might not be the same thing that got Kane his followers)。 。。。more

Does not help with you to grow on Instagram or Facebook at all。 It gives you some info in how to use some tools on social media and that’s all。 Social media is all about branding so if you want to construct a brand on you got to read more about branding。

It was a disappointment。 Growing in any platform from scratch is hard, I expected to get “insiders’ secrets” that could possibly help me in growing a page’s following from instagram for example, but this wasn’t even digital marketing 101, it was more like 100。5。Any one with little knowledge in social media knows the information included in the book without even trying to know。 Bullshit about split testing, reaching out to influencers, and even the major wisdom of posting “great content!” was a t It was a disappointment。 Growing in any platform from scratch is hard, I expected to get “insiders’ secrets” that could possibly help me in growing a page’s following from instagram for example, but this wasn’t even digital marketing 101, it was more like 100。5。Any one with little knowledge in social media knows the information included in the book without even trying to know。 Bullshit about split testing, reaching out to influencers, and even the major wisdom of posting “great content!” was a tip。 It’s really a book of no value, the author was speaking but he never really said anything。The problem doesn’t stop there, the thing is, most of the book is about leveraging brand awareness (which by the way the author didn’t mention - even in a different title)。 Brand awareness is about getting people to know you, it’s not an offer or a sale, it’s content targeted at getting people to follow your page or newsletter or any kind of base for your followers - or to know about your company。 You collect followers, then you mainstream content for them to see it and help them, and once in a while you hit them with what Gary V called a hook, which is the offer。 With giving valuable content to your followers, you get them to buy your products to make you profitable。 The thing about brand awareness and one of the ways it’s different than direct marketing, is that it requires CAPITAL。 Social media marketing is very competitive, and in order to survive you have to put a lot of money to collect good data and be able to return your marketing investment, and so, you SHOULDN’T split test or manage your marketing。 The book talks about concepts that shouldn’t - at least in my opinion- be tried by a regular individual without technical knowledge, and obviously because these concepts are way too primitive for digital marketers, the book is mostly worthless。 Unless you’re a duck, or you’re a caveman, I don’t believe this book will be worthy of time, the insight is honestly way too “common-sense” for anyone。 And by the way, the author of the book gained one million followers by paid ads。 。。。more

Decent insight on the facebook platform and how to grow your brand。 Mostly education on testing and updating how you related to an audience。

I agree with many of the other reviewers — this could (and should) have been summarized in a magazine article, unless the author removed the constant call outs to go to his website for more information and actually placed that detail in the book。 Without it, this is very simplified and mostly empty of really helpful tips。

It's funny how the title here is so personal, "How I built 。 。 。 " yet much of this book is about how it takes teams of experts and lots of money to grow a million followers, even for someone who has engrossed himself in the industry for years。 Although it's interesting to learn how Shareability works to create viral content, it's not something the average small business owner can do。 I was hoping to get some basic takeaways on how I can grow the social following for my business, but this is wri It's funny how the title here is so personal, "How I built 。 。 。 " yet much of this book is about how it takes teams of experts and lots of money to grow a million followers, even for someone who has engrossed himself in the industry for years。 Although it's interesting to learn how Shareability works to create viral content, it's not something the average small business owner can do。 I was hoping to get some basic takeaways on how I can grow the social following for my business, but this is written more for larger corporations who have the money to hire marketing gurus to get this stuff done。 Most entrepreneurs aren't Casey Neistat and don't have the wherewithal or endurance to keep putting out great content while building their businesses。 If your main goal is to build a big following on social media, then this book might be for you。 But if you're a small business owner looking for some tips to increase your following on social media channels, this book is likely to feel overwhelming and fall short of your expectations。 Reader beware: The back cover is dedicated to accolades instead of introducing the reader to the book's valuable content。 When I start reading or listening to a book I love, I can't wait to find out what's coming next。 This didn't happen for me with this book。 I started listening to this Audible book and then stopped because the actions seemed unrealistic for a small business。 I did this several times, stopping and starting, hoping to gain some helpful takeaways。 Because of this disjointed experience, I probably didn't get the most out of it。 IMHO, the book's flashy title indirectly promises the impracticable, "a million followers in 30 days," and fails to deliver a realistic strategy for entrepreneurs to follow。 Suggesting that he gained one million followers in 30 days is misleading。 He spent many years prior to this learning how to gain followers。 Aside from the misleading title, if you're dedicated to figuring out how to grow a following, you'll likely pick up some good points from this book。 。。。more

As an author growing her platform, I am "all ears" to different ways to attract more followers, especially on Instagram。 So, when I saw Brendan's book on a Facebook ad, I decided to send him my nine bucks and get his book。 This is the book to read if you want to grow your Facebook page through Facebook ads。 What Brendan details are true-blue advertising methods。 I especially like this idea of finding ways to get your posts in front of people who will share them (which may not be your ideal clien As an author growing her platform, I am "all ears" to different ways to attract more followers, especially on Instagram。 So, when I saw Brendan's book on a Facebook ad, I decided to send him my nine bucks and get his book。 This is the book to read if you want to grow your Facebook page through Facebook ads。 What Brendan details are true-blue advertising methods。 I especially like this idea of finding ways to get your posts in front of people who will share them (which may not be your ideal clients per se, but they can put you in front of your ideal clients)。 Brendan was very transparent about this methods, which I appreciated。This is not the book to read if you want to grow your followers in a more organic, authentic way。 Basically, if you follow Brendon's method, you will be adding followers who may not be your ideal clients。 I'm not poo poo'ing this completely because he explained why it's important if you are building your platform as a celebrity (which he has experience in doing)。 His theory is that if you want to build brand awareness, cast a wide net; if you want people to buy from you, cast a smaller net。 That's not bad advice。He did devote chapters to growing your platform on Instagram, YouTube, and Snapchat - all good ideas that leverage strategic partnerships and paid advertising。All in all, I would not implement everything Brendan taught in this book, but I appreciate his wisdom, candor, and transparency about what he was teaching us。 I walked away with some food for thought, and I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who wants to grow their Facebook fans through ads。 。。。more
